1. For the purposes of this study the term ‘environmentalists’ is used to describe individuals or groups whose primary objective is the introduction of policies beneficial to the environment. In contrast to firms and industrial federations which may promote environmentally friendly products, environmentalists have no direct material interest in EC environmental policy.
